The Bitter Oleander

The Bitter Oleander, a magazine of contemporary International is a biannually published journal of contemporary poetry and short fiction. Although it publishes mostly domestic poetry, it is primary focus continues to be on poetry in translation with a actual concentration on the imaginative creation of language from a very individualized perception. It has had work represented in the Best American Poetry 1999 and important as Best Literary Journal 2005 through Public Radio’s “Excellence in Print” award.

Each issue contains a featured poet which includes a huge selection of his or her poetry as well as an in depth interview with editor Paul B. Roth. Since a great deal of emphasis is on contemporary poetry written outside the U.S. TBO has interviewed such poets as Marjorie Agosín, Ruxandra Cesereanu, Alberto Blanco, Nicomedes Suaréz-Araúz, Ye Chun, Aase Berg, Martín Camps. It has also published the work of such award winning American poets as W.S. Merwin, Robert Bly, Charles Wright, Duane Locke, Colette Inez, Alan Britt, Silvia Scheibli, Ray Gonzalez, Christine Boyka Kluge and Anthony Seidman.

Big Muddy

Big Muddy has been rollin’ since 2000. Publishing an interdisciplinary selection of creative nonfiction essays, history, poetry, fiction, biography, environmental sciences, business, photography, song and art in a perfect bound, color cover format. While topics linked to the Mississippi River Valley are always encouraged, a turn relation to the area is not necessary, after all, generally of the continent leads in single way or a different to the Big River Road. The magazine furthermore includes small reviews of predominantly independent and university press books.

Our past contributors include emerging writers who deserve to be heard, as well as well known voices such as that of Colleen McElroy, Stephen Graham Jones, Virgil Suarez, Jim Elledge, Elaine Fowler Palencia, Ryan G.
